What is the difference between Scotch and bourbon?

Scotch is made in Scotland, mostly from malted barley, and aged at least three years in used oak, giving drier, more layered flavors. Bourbon is American, corn-based and aged in new charred oak, giving sweeter vanilla and caramel notes.

What are the main Scotch whisky regions?

Speyside for orchard fruit and honey, Highland for heather and gentle smoke, Islay for peat and sea air, Lowland for light grassy malts, and Campbeltown for salty, oily character. Region is a guide, not a rule.

Is single malt better than blended Scotch?

Not inherently. Single malt comes from one distillery; a blend combines malt and grain whiskies for balance. Some of the most awarded Scotches in the world are blends.
